Charlottesville Part 3: Ash Lawn-Highland, Hiking, and food!

Hi All!  I'm back with the long-awaited final installment of our Charlottesville trip.  Get excited because there is going to be a lot of Adelaide-ness.

On this trip, we continued to hone our skills at traveling with a baby.  We learned the value of puffs, teething toys, and flexibility.  We also discovered that we spent a lot more time in the hotel room than we did on past trips.  8:30 bed times mean no martinis until 1 a.m.  So we made the most of our time in the room -- we watched our wedding video and a photo slideshow from a past anniversary.  And Adelaide really liked the view from our room:

Out on the other side of the window, we explored more Charlottesville history.  We went to Ash Lawn-Highland, James Monroe's home.  It was no Monticello {Jefferson was hard to compete with}, but he had a beautiful home on a beautiful piece of Virginia land.

We spent some time checking out the lawn at Ash Lawn {I know, I've got mad pun skills}:

We also had a chance to take a short hike through the woods near Monticello.  The best part is that the paths were all stroller-friendly.  It's like they knew we were coming!

We will finish on a yummy note -- the food.  Before we went to Charlottesville, my work friend made the bold statement that the food is better than the food in DC.  Whoa.  Game on.

We had no complaints:  egg sandwiches at Bodo's Bagels; tuna tartar at Zocalo; Cuban steak at C&O restaurant; grilled cheese and milkshakes at The Nook.  Charlottesville definitely gave DC a run for its money.

Thanks for reading our Charlottesville tales!  A special thanks to Jessica and Ellen for the tips.  {We also found some good advice in the New York Times article, "Thirty Six Hours in Charlottesville."  Next time, we'll take their advice and hit-up the wineries.  That's supposedly frowned upon with a baby.}

Bye friends!
